Midlands Piano Services is a dedicated piano tuning and restoration business, established in September
2001, owned and run by James Webster. James has been involved in the piano trade his whole life as his
father, Ian Webster, is also a piano tuner whom James learned the trade of piano tuning and repair from
while spending time in his workshop from a very young age. James tuned (or attempted to tune!) his first
piano at the age of about 10 years old when he crept into the workshop and had a go at tuning a piano
for the first time. From then on James knew that this was the job that he would do when he grew up.
At the end of 1997 James started his apprenticeship at a well known piano business in the midlands. In
July 1999 James and his father were offered a job working for a piano company in Holland and James
spent 6 months there gaining valuable experience in the trade (especially in the field of piano removal).
James returned to South Africa in 2000 and worked for the same company for 18 months before leaving
and starting his own Business.
Since then James has taken on 5 other employees, including his father Ian Webster, his brother in law
David Gardiner as well as 3 others.
Today Midlands Piano Services offers the most comprehensive piano service and supply in KZN, going
as far afield as Richards Bay, Port Shepstone, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Greytown, Richmond,
Underberg, Ladysmith, Vyheid and Newcastle.
